You are a silhouette now
Cardboard cutout
Pasted upon a wall
Scissors shaping
Your toes
And elbows
Making of you a butterfly
A Peris: granting boons
And monsoons
Breathing life
Into wax dolls
Dressed in periwinkle gowns
Frail and fragile
Like a fey
Your timeless beauty
Unchanging everyday.

But they show not the callouses
Of those days
When you carried trays
Full of beer mugs
And swept the kitchen floor
Till eleven,
The Kohl running down your cheek
Cheap lipstick recolored in sweat
Whilst you await
In a corner
For all to vacate, retreat,
Before you could search the bin, O Queen
For even a mouthful to eat
And dare dream again
Of tommorow or the day after
And spare a bit of laughter
For now, this how;
Rearranging your hourglass heart
Short of an hour
To save time in the end
And be free in those moments
Evolve, transcend.

But they show not these callouses
Nor the weight of your wings
For you are a silhouette now
Cardboard cutout
Pasted upon wall
A Peris: accursed
Life shaped
In a wax doll.

I find poetry as a gentle reminder, a medium to relay and dwell upon all things considerate people find inconsiderate. Poetry as an art is akin to a lamp or a magnifying glass. It trails volumes of meaning behind obscure, vague words. I have been writing for a time now, and intend to do so for the time to come. And hopefully, hopefully, hope that one day, someday, a person stumbling across this veil of words, find it alluring enough to shift aside the curtain and peer, into the eyes of the naked truth which sways with the wind of reason. If you have any thoughts, it would be my pleasure to know them, if you don't then it would be a pleasure to not. Be my guest. This feast of words is for you.

  1. That second stanza is perfect! One of the best writings ever! I do not want to jinx it but Gods have blessed your literary skills and imagination, Purvesh!

This poem is a masterpiece! I earnestly appreciate its beauty! Loved the picture, loved the title too.

Convinced that your writing will never get old, it will just get better and better. ๐Ÿ™‚

May He reward you with the best! You truly are worthy of it.

    1. I cannot thank you enough, Pragya. Your constant support and appreciation is the actual blessing.
I am glad for the time and effort you put in reading and then speaking your mind with genuine warmth. Nothing better than having a friend like you ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thank you once again. And I hope to read a masterpiece from you soon… Godspeed

      1. Hi, I am going away for a while. Just wanted to let you know this –

This might sound exaggerated to some but honestly, your poems have helped me. To some I could one hundred percent relate, some made me change my perspective regarding certain… things, some right away hurt me ; but each one of them has helped me grow in some way. I know I say it more than I should but I would rather be embarrassed telling the truth than be ungrateful, or ignorant. I do not want to carry that burden with me. These praises are not mine to keep, they belong to you so, you shall have it. I will keep the lessons that I learnt from your poetry. The world lacks gratitude, anyway.

I cannot picture myself writing now because โ€“

        โ€œI have far less words
        Far lesser time
There is a sun for me to swallow
        Without a whiff of wineโ€ ๐Ÿ˜Š

Also because, itโ€™s not making anything better. I got too comfortable and overused, I guess.
But I will be back soon, God willing. Thank you for the encouragement, means a lot.

Meanwhile, if you decide to leave this platform or something like that then please drop a comment regarding the same on my site.

You have a great week and a beautiful September ahead, and more and more of poetry ! Take care.

PS. You can totally trash this comment. Lol

      2. There is nothing better than knowing that you have helped someone in anyway whatsoever. I am glad you took the time to let me know it. I will remember your words; this monument you so graciously bestowed upon me.
I sincerely hope that things do get better for you ๐Ÿ™ Will miss you encouraging insights and wait for your return.
Thank you for being kind and supporting to my meager talent …..
And I am not going anywhere from this platform anytime soon๐Ÿ˜……
        Thank you once again
